About

Heather Jo Bailey

Therapy Interests: Depression, Trauma, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Family Issues, Teen Issues, LGBTQIA+ Issues, Adjustment Disorders, various other issues.

Therapies: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strength-Based, Meaning-Centered, Person-Centered, Dialectical Behavior, various other therapy techniques.

Education/Philosophy: I graduated from Boise State University with a master’s degree in Social Work. Prior to obtaining my MSW, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (also from BSU), with a minor in Psychology. I later obtained my clinical license (LCSW). I absolutely LOVE my career choice, and I enjoy working with people of all ages. I have found that I enjoy helping people with almost any issue with which they may be struggling, and I believe in meeting a person where they are. I use a strengths-based approach to assist my clients in resolving issues, and I believe strongly that each individual is the #1 expert in his/her/their own life, and therefore very capable of making any necessary adjustments/changes. Sometimes each of us simply needs someone to help us through the process.

Interests/Hobbies: When I'm not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and pets, listening to music, singing in the shower/car, reading, working on whatever craft I’m currently into (right now it’s canvas painting and epoxy jewelry!), spending time in the mountains or at the ocean, traveling, and watching movies. I adore my family and friends, and I also truly enjoy meeting/learning about new people. I believe that our purpose in life includes (and is actually centered around) making connections with others and helping one another, and that is what I try to do to the best of my abilities.

Favorite Quote (well, one of them!): “A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.” – Eeyore

About Me

About
01.

Individual therapy is just that - an individual person meeting with a therapist to discuss whatever issues they are struggling with and to process their thoughts and feelings about those issues. A therapist's role is to listen, to provide input/advice when appropriate, and to help the individual explore and work through the issues in order to gain a better understanding of themselves and their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Ultimately, the goal is to assist the individual to gain more control over their life and to begin feeling better. Individual is the primary way I (and most therapists) deliver therapy.

02.

There are various types of group therapy: psychoeducational groups, skills development groups, cognitive behavioral groups, support groups, and processing groups. The therapist's role varies depending on the type of group that is formed. I love groups, as I feel it is important for individuals to connect with others who are experiencing similar issues to their own. I will form groups based on perceived need in the community and a sufficient number of potential participants. If you are seeing me for individual therapy and you are interested in joining a group, please let me know.

03.

Couples therapy is a type of therapy in which a licensed therapist works with a couple to help them to identify and resolve relationship issues. I will decide whether to work with couples on a case-by-case basis, and never for a current or previous individual client (as a therapeutic relationship has already been established with one half of the couple).
